Man Escapes Prison After Stabbing His Stepfather

Our client, a 19-year-old man, was charged with Reckless Wounding after he used a kitchen knife to stab his stepfather during an altercation. Lara made submissions to the Sentencing Magistrate in relation to our client’s troubled childhood and the effect that being a witness to domestic violence incidents from a young age had on his ability to make rational decisions in stressful situations.

Lara successfully convinced the Magistrate to consider an alternative sentence to a term of imprisonment, and our client was ultimately sentenced to an Intensive Corrections Order, to be supervised by Community Corrections for a period of 7 months and to complete 100 hours of community service.
