Burning
Questions

At Coutts, we acknowledge that having a legal issue can be overwhelming. Getting answers to those questions that are keeping you awake at night can help minimise all the stress.

During your first appointment with us, our lawyers will have an open and honest discussion with you regarding fees to ensure you understand our fee structure and what is involved with your matter. For some services this will be a fixed fee cost but at other times there might be another basis on which fees are calculated for your matter.

Here is a small rundown of the different fee structures:

Hourly fee

This is where our fees are based on an hourly rate for services performed. When basing our fees on an hourly basis it is important to note that emails, calls and anything that our staff will need to action in relation to your matter would be billed. A detailed, itemized bill will be given to you showing all work done on your matter.

Fixed fee

On a fixed fee basis, your legal fee is fixed for agreed upon services. If anything falls out of the scope of the agreed upon services, our lawyers will advise you before proceeding any further.

No Win, No Fee

On a no win, no fee basis, your legal fees will be based on the amount of recovery we get for you. Not all cases with qualify for this structure, it is usually Injury Compensation matters, however we will let you know if yours does.

Other potential fees

A pre-payment will often be required in order to begin to process your matter and you will be kept advised as to how that pre-payment is being used.  We may also need extra payments to be made along the way to cover things like filing fees etc. Invoices will be sent to you periodically showing your charges and payments.

We try to keep legal fees as cost effective as possible whilst providing you with expert advice and solutions. We also know that life can get in the way and we try to be as flexible as possible so if you have any issues with fees please speak to your lawyer.

We know life can busy and not everyone can attend our office which is why we are able to offer a range of options to ensure everyone has access to legal solutions. Some of our appointment types include:

  • In person at one of our offices
  • Via telephone
  • Via Zoom or Skype
  • Out of hours if required
  • We can also travel to you if required (in some circumstances this may incur additional fees)

To get started all you need to do is contact us, you can do this by filling out the enquiry form online, calling us or by visiting one of our offices. Our friendly team will then give you a call within 24 hours to discuss your situation. Should we be able to assist you, we will book in an initial consultation with one of our expert lawyers. Each area of law has a different process however this will be explained to you before commencing any work as well as outlining the expectations of both our team and yourself to ensure the best possible outcome.

We will endeavour to keep you updated at all critical stages of your case and ensure that any request or phone call will be acknowledged within 24 hours as communication is one of our key values.
