Two years after being promoted to Senior Associate, Luisa Gaetani has made history as the youngest person appointed to Partner at Coutts Lawyers, effective as of 1st of January 2022.
The appointment comes after a slew of client wins in high stakes, complex matters. As the head of Coutts’ Family & Criminal Law Division, Luisa developed a distinguished reputation, as the “go-to” lawyer for resolving cases most lawyers deemed “impossible to win”. With a passion for further education and a commitment to up-skilling, Luisa recently passed the rigorous process to become an Accredited Specialist Family Lawyer.
Luisa’s rise to the top of her field started with a humble mission in her youth: to broaden access to justice and be a powerful advocate for the marginalised.
“There are so many people who don’t realise there are legal solutions to their problems. Growing up, I witnessed people living in fear, believing that there was nothing more they could do to address the abuse they received. This sparked my desire to be a voice for them and fight for their rights,” Luisa said.
The recently appointed Partner started her career at Coutts in 2016 and has since scored successive career wins, swiftly progressing from Lawyer to Senior Lawyer, Head of Criminal and Family Law and then Senior Associate.
Although females now outnumber male law graduates, there is still a wide discrepancy within senior leadership roles. Managing Partner of Coutts Lawyers & Conveyancers, Adriana Care, is determined to correct this imbalance and promote people based solely on merit.
“Luisa has a real duality about her. She is tough in the courtroom and aggressively fights to ensure her clients’ triumph, but she also shows real compassion and empathy to her clients. Luisa is not just a powerful lawyer; she is also a client’s confidant and cheerleader. This promotion was always a matter of ‘when’ and not ‘if’,” Adriana said
When Luisa discovered she was made Partner at Coutts’ annual Christmas Party, she was initially surprised, then filled with both pride and gratitude.
“Being made Partner at a law firm that truly puts people first, is something I am very proud of. I am excited and grateful to have a more hands-on role and the opportunity to help steer the direction of Coutts,” Luisa said.
